Seward Cruise Ship Terminal and Port Information

seward cruise

It is nestled at the head of Resurrection Bay, offering breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, and pristine wilderness. To streamline the process of reaching the Seward Cruise Port, shuttle services are available to transport passengers directly from Anchorage or the Anchorage airport. While Seward does have its own small airport, it is not equipped for large-scale passenger services. If your cruise leaves from Seward, the closest airport to Seward is the airport in Anchorage, Alaska.

Seward Cruise Ship Terminal Directions

The city offers an array of shopping opportunities anchored around local handicrafts and artisanal wares made by resident artists. As with eating out in Seward, the city’s ambient downtown district and its harbour are your two go-to places if shopping appeals whilst in port. In both locations, you’ll find decorative items crafted within Alaska, including jewellery, woven goods and ceramics.

Seward, located on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, serves as a gateway to breathtaking glaciers, fjords, and wildlife-rich waters. Seward is one of Alaska’s oldest and most scenic communities on the Kenai Peninsula. Get up close to the Alaskan glaciers and wildlife you came to experience by taking a cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park on a custom-built catamaran out of Seward. The difference from other cruises, is that you’ll then get off the boat and into a kayak, paddle around icebergs, and watch for wildlife from your own vessel. However, Northern Latitude Adventures runs on smaller boats, making this a much more intimate experience. A free shuttle bus, operated by Seward City Tours and calling at various points of interest, stops at the cruise terminal and operates between 8 a.m.

A glacier cracks loudly making the phrase “white thunder” make sense as a giant piece of ice falls into the water. An otter rides the wake of our boat, holding onto a rock it will use to crack open the clamshell in its other paw for lunch. These are some of the quintessential experiences you can have on a Kenai Fjords National Park cruise. The Alaska SeaLife Center is an aquarium and Alaska’s only permanent marine mammal rehabilitation center. You’ll see dozens of native Alaskan species up close, from salmon to giant octopus, king crab, and colorful sea stars.

You can easily cruise out of Seward as a day trip from Anchorage, but if you have more time, we recommend spending at least one night here. Seward has a charming harbor-village atmosphere and many other activities like hiking, kayaking, dog sledding and fishing. Not to mention the famous Alaska SeaLife Center, where visitors can learn about marine life and participate in interactive exhibits. This is the best spot to see whales near Anchorage, and you’ll also see a greater variety of wildlife than on other cruises in Alaska. You have good odds of seeing orca and humpbacks and maybe even minke, fin, and sometimes even beluga and grey whales too!

Guests beginning their cruise in Seward typically fly into Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) in Anchorage. Anchorage is 120 miles from Seward, and the trip to Seward can take anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the mode of travel. Guests can travel to Seward via train, motor coach, vehicles for hire, and rental car. We recommend that guests arrange their transportation to Seward in advance. With numerous transportation options available, cruise guests can easily arrive in Seward a day or two before their cruise departure date or remain in Seward following the end of their cruise.

It is one of the oldest and most charming places to visit in Alaska. You’ll then make your way back toward Resurrection Bay, with a couple amazing stops along the way. These may include the Chiswell Islands, a national wildlife refuge and bird sanctuary; or Cape Resurrection, which has one of Alaska’s largest Kittiwake rookeries. Or, if your crew has heard there are whales in the bay, you may head back to check out these majestic creatures. Read on for our breakdown of Seward Cruise Ship Terminal, including address information, cruise line terminals, directions, services and more.

Day Cruises

The very pleasant walk from the cruise terminal to the furthest point of the downtown area takes around 30 minutes. Sleepy Skagway offers a fascinating insight into the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 19th century. It’s here that a makeshift town of bars, bordellos, outfitters, and accommodation for 40,000 prospectors sprang up almost overnight. Follow in their footsteps over the mountains to the goldfields on the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, which clatters over gorges and tumbling waterfalls. Skagway is also packed with outdoor activities, from dog-sledding to canoeing, rafting, and hiking.

Duration: 4 hours (Roundtrip from Seward.)

It’s recommended to check with your cruise line or travel agent for the most up-to-date information regarding guest amenities at the Seward Cruise Terminal for your specific cruise. The Seward Cruise Terminal often features shops where passengers can browse and purchase various items. These shops may offer souvenirs, clothing, accessories, local products, and more. Comfortable seating areas are provided throughout the terminal, allowing passengers to relax while they wait for embarkation or disembarkation procedures. Another scenic option is the Alaska Railroad, which operates a summer-only route from Anchorage to Seward.

Forge a trail through America’s Last Frontier all onboard Radiance of the Seas®, a ship designed for edge-of-the-map exploration. Boasting the most glass of any Royal Caribbean ship, it’s perfect for glacier-gazing and whale-watching in Alaska. Witness towering glaciers, kayak among icebergs, and spot majestic whales in Kenai Fjords National Park. Explore lush forests, encounter bears and eagles, and immerse yourself in native Alaskan culture.

Although you won't see as many glaciers as you would in Prince William Sound, you get to see more dramatic whale behaviors like breaching and feeding - which is a sight to behold. Major Marine Tours is my favorite Kenai Fjords cruise operator, and this 8.5-hour tour is their longest tour that will take you to the furthest reaches of the national park. You’ll spend a whopping 8.5 hours out on the water – a great amount of time on a day with good weather (or a miserable unending slog if the water is choppy or has swells!). Seward is compact, flat, and easy to navigate on foot, with most attractions within a mile’s walk of the cruise ship dock.

You’ll find everything from fine dining restaurants specialising in menus designed around seasonally foraged ingredients, to lively craft beer bars serving up amber ales brewed in the Last Frontier. Seward Harbour and downtown are your two best bets for eating out whilst in the city. You’ll find traditional smokehouses serving infused steaks and salmon at the harbour and a tempting choice of sweet pastries and cakes among the bakeries downtown.
